Elena Marinova, Chairperson of the Development Board of the Natural Sciences Olympic Teams Association and President of Musala Soft attended the 7th Annual Meeting of the natural sciences Olympic teams on December 18th in Sofia.
Rumen Radev, President of the Republic of Bulgaria hosted the event and greeted the Bulgarian medalists in natural sciences in 2017.
„I would like to thank President Radev for the support and to express hope that we will continue to upgrade all valuable and meaningful initiatives with the institution lead by him”, said Elena Marinova in her speech.
She outlined that in 2017 Bulgarian teams in natural sciences have won a total of 95 medals in international contests and Olympiads (17 gold, 31 silver and 47 bronze) and 2 honor certificates from international Olympiads in Mathematics, Informatics, Chemistry, Biology, Physics, Astronomy, Astrophysics and Linguistics in Estonia, Kazakhstan, Moldova, Brazil, Singapore, Thailand, Indonesia, Great Britain, Iran, Ireland, China, Romania, Russia and Bulgaria. First place by number of medals holds the Sofia High School of Mathematics with 26 medals, followed by the High School of Mathematics in Burgas with 13 medals and 1 honor certificate; medals in 2017 also won students from Shumen, Plovdiv, Ruse, Varna, Yambol, Gabrovo, Blagoevgrad, Pleven and Gotse Delchev.
Тhis year, Bulgaria was initiator and first host of the European Junior Olympiad in Informatics eJOI, held under the patronage of the President Rumen Radev, which gathered young talents in competitive programming from 22 Council of Europe member countries. Elena Marinova was among the four initiators together with Prof. Krassimir Manev, Biserka Yovcheva and Alexey Hristov.
In 2017, Bulgaria hosted the Junior Balkan Olympiad in Mathematics in Varna.
Elena Marinova expressed gratitude to all institutions supporting the Olympic movement and declared willingness for more active collaboration; she thanked Bulgarian business that in 2017 donated about 300.000 BGN to Bulgarian natural sciences Olympic teams; she thanked American Foundation for Bulgaria which coordinates the teams and America for Bulgaria Foundation which has supported the teams with over 3.5 million BGN for the past 10 years; she thanked the team leaders and teachers who are doing miracles with the talented children; she thanked parents who encourage their kids to be curious and to learn and she thanked the Olympic contestants who achieve success unthinkable to most of us and who are the future leaders of Bulgaria and the world.
The meeting was also attended by Alexey Hristov, Chairman of the Natural Sciences Olympic Teams Association, Desislava Taljokova, CEO of America for Bulgaria Foundation, as well as students, medalists from international contests and their teachers.
